GCB Stars Defend Their Show

Lots of controversy over this show, including attacks by political candidates like Newt Gingrich, everyone needs to decide for themselves.

Kristin Chenoworth Defends 'GCB' Gay Storyline

Kristin Chenoweth has spoken out about the gay storyline in GCB.  The show starring Ms. Chenoweth has attracted controversy over the satirical attack it commits against the American Christian community.

Speaking to ABC News, Chenoworth stated that people need to be less judgmental about people different than themselves, as the Bible states.  'The Bible tells us that we're not supposed to judge, and people shouldn't judge before seeing the show. I'm a Christian, I think that's pretty well known, and I would never do anything that I think crossed the line.' In the show, Chenoworth plays Charlene, a plastic-surgery fanatic who is Christian by day. The show itself revolves around Charlene's crew of Christian housewives, one of whom is married to a gay man and has to keep the secret from the Church community. Defending the story line, Chenoworth further elaborated: 'I'd say go to church and take a look around the room and see if you see any women who might be married to a man who might be gay. I'd say be very careful of judging someone who's in marriage who is gay because they don't want to be told they're going to hell. I think that happens and I think it's horrible.'

GCB, or 'Good Christian Belles', is currently being shown in the US. Kristin Chenoweth will also be seen alongside Bradley Cooper in comedy 'Outrun' later this year.

Kraft Philly Cream Cheese Yanks Ads From GCB

Philadelphia Cream Cheese won't be spreading the good word during GCB. Kraft issued a statement saying that it has decided that it will no longer advertise its cream cheese during ABC's mid season show, which is based on the book series Good Christian Bitches. "Philadelphia has decided to pull its advertising from GCB ... We have received a few complaints from consumers and their opinions about our advertising are important to us," a company spokesperson told the site. "We have recently decided to redirect our advertising to other programs." After its decision itself became a controversy, Kraft later released the following statement: “As part of a larger multishow media buy on ABC-TV, there were some spots included in the rotation for the new GCB series,” Kraft says. “It's customary to advertise on premiere episodes due to their large viewership, like Philadelphia Cream Cheese did this week. “The brand has decided to redirect advertising to other programs with an established audience,” the statement continues. “Although we received a few consumer complaints, this decision was not linked in any way to the content of this particular show.” So, at first it was because of complaints, and then later it was a normal course of business. I'm glad they cleared that up! GCB stars Leslie Bibb, Kristin Chenoweth, Annie Potts, Jennifer Aspen and Miriam Shor as Southern Christian women in living a wealthy enclave in Dallas. Some feel that the show portrays a derogatory depiction of Christians. Earlier, New York City Councilman Peter Vallone also called for a boycott of the show because "the title of the show alone is yet another outrageous attack on the Christian faith. Charlie Sheen will be back on Two and a Half Men before we see a similar title targeting another religion." GCB airs on Sundays at 10/9c on ABC.
